T' sleeping giant ' is the name of Samsung in the photo. And sleeping doesn't seem too far we discovered, after visiting the booth of Samsung. Concerning floor space, Samsung had sufficient space to showcase many of its new products, and it is rather surprising that Samsung has nothing or almost nothing, to declare as for cameras. All products but a prototype, the Samsung HZ1, were introduced at CES and PMA (January 2008). Samsung seems to omit profiling the company as a manufacturer of innovative camera and serious of the world's largest and most important imaging event, except for some camera models, introduced in July.

Samsung HZ1 digital camera
Camera of Samsung prototype on display during the Photokina is the world's first compact camera with 10 x optical zoom lens with a focal length starting at 24 mm. Optical Zoom offers a range of 24-240 mm. The Samsung HZ1 digital camera is the first in the world with a 10 x optical zoom, including a goal of 24 mm ultra wide angle lens. In addition, this 10 megapixel camera offers HD shooting opportunities. The images are played on a 2.7-inch LCD monitor. The camera Samsung HZ1 is destined to become available in December 2008.

Samsung and Pentax cooperation
For now, the cooperation of Hoya Corporation Pentax Imaging Systems Division and Samsung don't seem to much success when it comes to digital SLR cameras. Although Samsung has made it quite clear during the various events which certainly are willing to participate in the creation of an entry level DSLR, Pentax Hoya is introducing the Pentax K-m and a number of new lenses during the Photokina.

SAjmah was also present at the Photokina 2008. In addition to the announcement of a series of new lenses, including the 24-70 mm f 2.8 EX DG HSM with a considerably smaller build than that of the lens of brilliant 24-70 mm Nikon, Sigma also announced the development of second generation DSLR and compact camera models. The Sigma SD15 and Sigma DP2 are both based on Foveon sensor 4.7 megapixel x 3; However, they will be equipped with a new processor called true II. This processor must ensure improved processing speed (e.g. for continuous shooting) and should increase the overall quality of the image. Sigma on display to the public behind glass both products.

Behind the scenes, the press and traders have been able to admire a series of models of the SD15 and DP2 demo. The two cameras are still in a stage too early draw conclusions. Certainly we will come back to it, as they become available to full production models. The Sigma DP2 is equipped with a 24.2 mm lens f/2.8, equivalent to 41 mm on a 35 mm SLR camera. This focal length is able to offer more creative options and will be extremely interesting for the street photographer and nature. Two glass aspherical lenses should be able to offer high image quality. The Super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens and SLR-sized image sensor combination provides natural shallow depth of field and attractive bokeh effect. According to the information we received, the Sigma DP2 will be available in February 2009.

Sigma SD15 DSLR
We do not know much about the Sigma SD15 yet, except that features the same Foveon sensor integrated in the SD14. In addition, the Sigma SD14 incorporates new true II image processing engine Sigma. Improved the speed of processing should ensure a faster playback of images on the screen. The size of the display on the back of the camera has increased from 2.5 to 3 inches. Moreover, the true II processor is expected to improve the signal to noise ratio and therefore generate less noise in the image. Sigma too adopts a different storage medium format.

Whereas the SD14 offered a slot for CompactFlash cards support, the new Sigma SD14 will support only SD and SDHC. Just a sample becomes available, you will also find its way to our DIWA test lab to undergo various tests. The Sigma SD15 will become available in April 2009, as far as we know. This will be after the PMA 2009 Show. See the complete Gallery Sigma at LetsGoDigital.

If that anything became clear at Photokina 2008, was the fact that the compact camera desperately needs a Boost. There was almost no news on the field of compact cameras at this world event, was the advanced digital cameras, SLR cameras that surprised us and, of course, the Micro FourThirds System. Fujifilm also didn t have much to offer, whereas in the past have always introduced some interesting compact cameras during events such as Photokina, except for a few a FinePix camera models were introduced at the beginning of August. The assortment looks too familiar; There is no longer the same stuff.

Fujifilm cameras

Fujifilm Super image sensor CCD
One of the highlights for us was the announcement of the new Fujifilm Super CCD image sensor. This new sensor should be able to achieve the best result by combining the following: high resolution, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. Eventually, the Super CCD EXR should bring the solution to a compact camera for do not suffer from loss of image (as opposed to a DSLR). Perhaps this is Fujifilm's answer to the new System of Micro FourThirds introduced by Panasonic and Olympus.

Fujifilm FinePix 3D camera
More news, perhaps interesting only for techies and Gadget freaks at this time, the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D System. A 3D system consisting of a digital camera with two lenses/sensors and a display/print. Fujifilm has already shown a camera digital 3D (currently 6 Megapixels) in which special features like the two lenses/special sensors and the monitor on the back stood out. The monitor generates light from two different angles, and a rapid rate (60 fps) is made. This allows displaying and viewing 3D images without need of accessories. In addition, Fujifilm plans to bring to market digital photo frame. The Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D system will be made available in 2009. See the complete Gallery Fujifilm at LetsGoDigital.

Pentax knows how to attract attention with the introduction of a series of products such as D-SLR, lenses and flash. The focus seems to have deviated from the range of compact camera to other products. Certainly when we look at the attention that goes to the assortment of D-SLR and introductions to Photokina. The Pentax K20 can be the current flagship of the Pentax; with the introduction of the Pentax Pentax Pentax K-m/K2000 once again tries to get a grip on the DSLR market for beginning photographers. The size is not to blame. The K2000-Pentax K-m/Pentax is very compact and easily able to compete with other models and has a good chance for the title: "compact DSLR of the year". Also a pimped version of Pentax K-m/K2000 was presented and could be admired.

Pentax Cameras

Pentax K-m/K2000-Pentax DSLR cameras
The Pentax Km/K2000-Pentax has all the features of the pentax k200 but even more compact housing. The resolution of 10.2 megapixels remained the same as did the image stabilization system. What did change, is the top LCD monitor that was still present on the K200 but disappeared from the K-m/K2000 and its function was taken over by the LCD monitor on the back of the DSLR camera. If we check the back of Pentax k-m /Pentax K2000 we notice immediately that the buttons have been given a different place; they are now positioned on the right side of the monitor. In order to decrease the weight, the Pentax Km/K2000 comes with a new 18-55 mm lens which has even less weight than its predecessor.

The target group of consumers this camera aims, are the so-called ' consumers ', which makes ease of use also play a role, as well as lightweight and compact. The Pentax K2000-Pentax K-m features a ' Help ' button, which offers an immediate explanation to guide a novice user experience at her first DSLR. And when the ' Help ' button becomes superfluous after a while, you can dedicate a new function for this button via the camera menu. The Pentax Km/K2000-Pentax will be available by the end of November. See the complete Pentax Photo Gallery to LetsGoDigital.
